Understanding Key Renal Function Indicators(Following IRIS Guidelines)
SDMA (Symmetric Dimethylarginine)
Early marker of kidney damage, increases earlier than creatinine (on average, months to years earlier), and is less affected by muscle mass. It is a revolutionary tool for early CKD screening, staging, and monitoring.
Creatinine
Traditional glomerular filtration rate (GFR) indicator, usually only significantly increases after about 75% of kidney function is lost. Results are susceptible to factors such as muscle mass and age.
